Comrie

A village in Strathearn, west of Crieff. We cover Comrie as part of his regular Crieff and Strathearn work. Period stone properties common here. Extensions and renovations carried out personally.

West of Crieff, Within Regular Range

Comrie sits on the Highland Boundary Fault, which earned it the name "Earthquake Town" in the Victorian era when tremors were frequent enough to be systematically recorded. That geological context is worth knowing when building work is involved, the village's stone properties on Drummond Street, Burrell Street, and along the River Earn were built to last, and they have, but the ground beneath them has its own character. Lee assesses ground conditions and existing structure at every site before any figures go on paper.

He covers Comrie regularly from his Crieff work, travelling the Strathearn valley west. The older stone properties here, Georgian and Victorian cottages with thick rubble walls and lime-based construction, require the same careful approach he applies to period buildings across the county.
