Abernethy's Round Tower stands at the heart of the village, one of only two surviving Irish-style round towers in Scotland, dating to the eleventh century. The stone buildings that cluster around it on Main Street and Abbey Road are similarly old in character, even where they have been updated over the centuries. Lime mortar, rubble masonry, and thick external walls that require careful treatment before any improvement work begins are all typical of the older properties here.
Lee works in Abernethy as a natural extension of his south Perthshire circuit. The A913 corridor between Perth and the Carse brings him through this area regularly. He understands the character of the older village properties and approaches them with the assessment they deserve.
